Building conservation is inherently environmentally sustainable: it is a way of using existing resources for an end product that is unique and irreplaceable. The property was once a ranch, then a school, then a monastery, then a treatment facility. We want to keep it around to continue serving our community. We plan to turn it into a culture and heritage center for all to enjoy. This one-of-a kind house has served many important functions and enhanced the lives of thousands, for over 7o years. It is an architectural gem. It was constructed of high quality materials that were custom ordered and imported. The quality of craftsmanship is astounding and rarely seen in today's architecture. It needs some work, but the property can be returned to its original glory. The building tells a rich and colorful history throughout its 70 plus year lifespan. Our mission is to prove that this old building is indeed worth every bit of blood, sweat and tears that it will take to renovate it and continue its legacy of serving our community in very positive ways. Why tear it down when it can serve a greater purpose?
Flick Ranch Project, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) Nonprofit Corporation. Our mission is to preserve and enhance culture, heritage and historical architecture by renovating and repurposing the Flick Ranch House. We commit to preserving the house for the use, education and enjoyment of local residents and visitors of present and future generations. We will advocate for the revitalization and appreciation of Nevada's historic resources.
We believe in making our community a better place to live by taking what's already good about it and turning it into something great. This means preserving all the best aspects of what came before us and highlighting them in a modern and purposeful way. Sure things change, we have new needs and new aspirations but it is not necessary to destroy the past in order to instill change and growth. The true meaning of being "green" is to reduce, reuse and recycle, not destroy, rebuild and forget. We strive to make our neighborhoods a place of prosperity where the greater community can thrive and live quality lives full of meaningful experiences. The Flick ranch house presents the perfect opportunity to demonstrate these values. The ranch land, with a history of over 150 years was the epicenter of the first settlement in the Truckee Meadows. And that is just the beginning!
